astros championship gear

In your opinion what do you consider to be the best and worst trade your favorite team has ever made?

As an Astros fan there are three that stand out

Best trade: On August 30, 1990 the Red Sox traded Jeff Bagwell to the Houston Astros for 36-year old relief pitcher Larry Andersen to gear up for their playoff run. That trade is now regarded as one of the most one-sided of all time. Although Andersen pitched well down the stretch in 1990 (allowing three runs in 22 innings of relief) and helped the Red Sox win the AL East division title on the last day of the season, Boston was swept in the American League Championship Series and then lost Andersen to free agency.

Worst trade: Houston traded Kenny Lofton to the Cleveland Indians for Eddie Taubensee and right-handed pitcher Willie Blair.

Worst trade (Honorable mention): Houston traded Curt Schilling to Philadelphia in 1991 and Schilling was one of the key factors in the Phillies’ pennant run in 1993.
I should have said your favorite MLB team.

Worst trade. Houston Astros trade Joe Morgan to the Cincinnati Reds for Lee Maye. They thought they were going to get Lee May, but the contract clearly had an e on the end of Maye’s name and Cincinnati’s active roster listed both May and Maye. Judge Roy Hofheinz who thought baseball traders would not be able to stand up to oil traders had to eat this trade. I’m glad the Astro’s finally made a good trade to get Bagwell.
Another way of looking at the Maye-Morgan trade is that Cincinnati made one of the greatest trades.
