for home brewers that know about kegs?

so i wanna start kegging my own home brew and I was just gonna start out small by doing the 5 liter carrying kegs and i was wondering, if when i’m going to put the beer in the kegs if i still use the priming sugar like i do the bottles

Yes, you can use sugar to carbonate in your 5L mini keg. Mix no more than 1/2 cup of corn sugar with your beer (assuming 5 gallon batch), the same as you would for bottling. Next, just rack to your mini kegs. Leave about an inch of head space, and seal with the appropriate bung. Just like with bottles, be certain your primary fermentation has finished by checking gravity and don’t use too much sugar- otherwise your kegs can explode.

Basically, its the same process as bottling – just a reduced number of containers (4 as opposed to 50+), and you will be using bungs instead of caps.

The mini kegs seem pretty cool, but without a CO2 system to push them, you have to consume the entire 5L contents before the beer stales and flattens out (same as a bottle). On the other hand, if you are going to spring for CO2, you might as well bite the bullet and just shell out a few more dollars for a corny setup.
