Swindled on a tattoo?

I got a tattoo on my birthday two days ago. I had though deep about it and knew what i want. It was the minnesota twins logo basically a T and a C overlapping…http://www.logoserver.com/baseball/MinnesotaTwins1961.GIF

the guy charged me 150 dollars just for a black outline of the letters which took twenty minutes, he wanted another 150 to shade in which i decided not to do at the time

how bad was i took?
basically a 4 by 4 inch tattoo, guy wasnt well known……..claimed that straight lines were the most difficult and shading was extremely time consuming and expensive

If the artist was one that is extremely well know (like around your region, or even the country) then you would have been charged a higher rate. But if it was just your local tattoo artist that is good but isn’t “famous” then, the price to outline it should have only been about half of what you paid, and maybe $100 to $150 at the most to outline and shade. But it also depends on how big you got it.

To do it aout 4″x4″ no artist that I know or work with would have charged over $80 for outlining and shading. Sounds like your artist is more about making big bucks off people than they are about their artform.

**I honestly would rather do a ton of straight lines (long or short) than do a bunch of curvy lines or points like in tribal. Shading is only time consuming if it’s something fancy (like say you wanted skulls shaded into it to fill it), that would be time consuming, just doing a basic shade or solid fill job doesn’t take long if you know how to pack the ink in and use a mag. I think you may have gotten a lazy money hungry artist.
