Do you think MLB deliberately made the Yankees have the last home opener to showcase the new yard?

2009 home openers:

Sun 4/5 — Giants.

Mon 4/6 — Angels, Astros, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Diamondbacks, Marlins, Orioles, Padres, Rangers, Red Sox, Reds, Twins, White Sox.

Tues 4/7 — Phillies.

Fri 4/10 — Athletics, Braves, Brewers, Indians, Royals, Rockies, Tigers.

Mon 4/13 — Cubs, Dodgers, Mets, Nationals, Pirates, Rays.

Tues 4/14 — Mariners.

Thur 4/16 — Yankees (at last).

It’s not even close.

Deliberate? (Which does not at all bother me. It’s just marketing. No point in wasting The Opening Of The New Yankee Stadium on or soon after Opening Day.)

Or just one of those schedule things?
It makes no difference to attendance, no.

But it will likely be a BIG score for television — ESPN or MLB’s own net, probably. Thursday night isn’t known for big ratings.

Personally, I think all the East Coast and Snow Belt teams should open on the west coast. I remember too well the schedule from a year or two ago when the Indians didn’t open the series, simply because the field was under 6″ of snow.

Showcase Yes, but that is secondary, In a land where Capitalism is King! The Almighty dollar is god and the GNP is driven by a media saturated “you just GOTTA have it” economy… Its all about Money, and what the MLB will get out if it. MLB loves to market and make a bundle from the “game of the year” To showcase this stadium, the ticket you gotta have, as the last of the home openers is no different then last years All Star game. Money money money….

I won’t be there, in fact, I will be heading to Boston to see the Red Sox. I can’t wait to see Fenway!
